#InternationalArtistsDay 2023: Celebrating Nolimit's Artists!

2023-10-25

Not to be biased - but our slots look damn good. Behind the gory amputations of Mental & Tombstone RIP - to the colourful rays beaming from the president’s golden teeth in East Coast vs West Coast - there are a team of talented artists that we’re proud to call our own.

As we commemorate International Artists Day, we sat down with some of the graphics team at Nolimit to dive into their inspirations, their favourite project - and some surprises hidden within their masterpieces. Let’s take a look!

ARTEM

What's your favourite piece of art or project you've produced at Nolimit?

It’s my latest game 9 to 5. The visual style is a mix of 90’s MTV, old computer graphics and pixel punk. All this goes well with office humour and simple game features. It was fun and challenging to work in this style, it felt like a breath of fresh air.

Can you name any other artists who inspire you?

GOATs like Albrecht Dürer and Henry Matisse. Also Andy Warhol. From current timeline: Ashley Wood, Phil Hale, Jim Mahfood, Cayce Zavaglia, Przemek Blejzyk, Dante Arcade, Sebastian Velasco.

Are there any fun facts or Easter eggs in any of your work?

My name is on occasional Punk Rocker graffiti tags and tattoos in San Quentin. One of the cars from Xways Hoarder Big Wins has my name ‘RTM’ on it. Monkey drummer from Punk Toilet band wears a football t-shirt with Rteam (hint to my name) as a team sponsor logo!

Palm trees are gradually replaced with marijuana bushes in Benji Killed in Vegas big win presentations. In general, I like to make fun of religion and leave stoner culture references in my games.

A very cool fun fact is that London Underground was about to sue us for the usage of their roundel in the Punk Rocker logo. Apparently, that shape is copyrighted lol.

CARLO
What's your favourite piece of art or project you've produced at Nolimit?

My Favorite piece of art or project that I produced at Nolimit City is all of it, to be honest. But Bounty Hunters stands out as my personal favourite. As a fan of guns, western themes and dynamic characters, Bounty Hunters presents an exciting gaming experience that intertwines visuals, user engagement, and captivating gameplay.

Can you name any other artists who inspire you?

All the artists at Nolimit City inspire me. They each have a unique style and a level of professionalism in their craft that drives me to be better.

As for my personal favourites, there are too many to mention but among them are Mark Fredrickson, Paul Mellender, KD Stanton Feng and Armand Serrano.

JAN

I think the inspiration for the graphics in a slot needs to be decided from the style and theme in every particular slot. One source of inspiration that stayed with me since childhood is the artists in MAD magazine like Mort Drucker or Don Martin.

JAVI
What's your favourite piece of art or project you've produced at Nolimit?

My favourite piece is from True Kult.

I love in general thrillers and horror films, and being able to do a game with this theme was a fun thing to do, i enjoyed it so much and of course, I could use my art to portray in the best way possible the feeling that I wanted on the game.

Can you name any other artists who inspire you?

I love artists like Joaquin Sorolla and Alfons Mucha. Their artworks inspired me my whole career and will do it always, their techniques, colour knowledge and masterpieces are just mind-blowing, I tried always to implement and influence my work in Nolimit from those artistic references but also in my work daily.

Are there any fun facts or Easter eggs in any of your work?

In Tombstone R.I.P, we have the person who is killing or executing the Characters on the big wins, kicking the boxes, that’s our founder - Jonas Tegman. He was my model at the office by then and he became the person in charge of the executions

KIT
What's your favourite piece of art or project you've produced at Nolimit?

“The Crypt”. It's the latest project I have been working on. The symbol is inspired by some well-known rock artists in their “after-life” form. Pretty fun! I am not a rock music fan, so I got a lot of help from my colleagues, for example, a list of rock stars.. who are dead already? What’s their most iconic look? I learnt a lot!

Can you name any other artists who inspire you?

Ar… there is no specific artist. I am usually inspired by computer games. It is easier for me to have a whole picture of the game. That can be drawing elements, colour tone or effect. For example, “guitar hero” is a good reference for the game “The Crypt”

Are there any fun facts or Easter eggs in any of your work?

We have some fun “mistakes” in project “Fire in the Hole”, for the low symbol in a slot game, we usually start from “AKQJ10”, but in ”Fire in the Hole”, we are having “KQJ109”, there is no “A”. No big deal, but also only a few people notice.

ANNIE
What's your favourite piece of art or project you've produced at Nolimit?

It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'll have to say it's the stuff I did for Benji Killed In Vegas. Specifically the big wins, with the chaotic mixture of 'gangster' presidents, a dog in a low-rider and a golden boombox robot (also used for promo material). It was my first game at NLC and I had such a fun time working on the art for it.

Can you name any other artists who inspire you?

Some so many phenomenal artists inspire me in all kinds of ways! The first one that comes to mind is Yuumei/Wenqing Yan (Instagram: yuumeiart) as I've looked up to her as an artist since I was 12. Her art motivated me when I was starting with digital art. There's Peter Polach/Apterus (instagram: sabbapterus), who uses colours and lighting most magically. Daniele Turtuici (instagram: danieleturturici) is a master of storytelling in his illustrations, and the creativity of the cartoony worlds he makes is truly inspiring.

Are there any fun facts or Easter eggs in any of your work?

Well, the pixel art I did in The Cage's Max Win was a reference to classic fighting games, especially the old arcade game 'Punch-Out!!'. I enjoy throwing in some references to memes or pop culture when the situation calls for it.

Happy International Artists Day!

As we continue to push the boundaries of creativity in the world of slots - we’re absolutely privileged to have these talented artists as part of our team.
